Dogs Across the Country on a Super Long Road Trip

Greetings readers! Sorry it has been so long since I posted. We have had a wild ride over the past few weeks and a lot of things have changed for us. Billy, Rudy and I thought we would be settling in Carmel for the long haul but as it turns out we are back on the road again in our Airstream and on our way aaalllllll the way back across the country to New England. We will be living out on Nantucket Island by late winter so Dogs by the Sea will resume posting once we have arrived out on ACK. Nantucket is the East Coast version of a "Dog City" so all will be well. Billy did suggest that we should change the name of the blog to "Dogs IN the Sea" since ACK is just a tiny dot thirty miles off the coast of Massachusetts... but for now I think we will stick with what we have got!

We all loved our time in Carmel and will miss our beach walks greatly. I am sure we will be back some day!

Halloween Beach Day

We had an absolutely gorgeous day this past Friday on Halloween. Anyone who came down to the town beach for a walk mid afternoon should have had an inspiring time. We met a lot of new dogs by the sea and Rudy had a fabulous time playing with everyone.

I did not grab any one's name here... so if you see your dog or a dog you happen to know give us a shout out in the comments section and let us know who is who!

One of the cutest characters out running the beach Friday was this shaggy little border terrier...

And of course Rudy keeps himself occupied even if there are no other dogs to play with... there are always things to do, such as pumping iron with giant seaweed barbells. Or should I say pumping iodine?

We did not run into anyone sporting a Halloween costume... I was hoping to see at least a few good ones around town but alas.... everyone we met was au naturale. It was too warm out for Rudy to wear his pumpkin sweater I made for him so he escaped the humiliation this year. He did score a few extra treats around the neighborhood in honor of fright night so I think he viewed the day as a success!

We May Have to Change Rudy's Name to Tarzan

Because he has a new girlfriend named Jane.

Pretty cute huh? Thanks Patty for letting the kids play tonight in the romantic light of dusk. ;)

Welcome to Dog City!

It is a well known fact that Carmel, CA is one of the best communities in the whole country to live in or visit with your dog. I am launching this new blog to chronicle the daily lives and lifestyles of the canine set in this beautiful city. Our little family of three (myself, my partner Billy and our terrier Rudy) just recently moved here and already we cannot imagine ever living anywhere else! It is heaven for a family with a dog.

We try to hit town and the beach at least 4 or 5 times a week and it is a perfect opportunity to meet the dog's and their people who live in or who are visiting the area enjoying one of the best beach walks on the West Coast. I plan to post photos of who we have "seen by the sea" and feature local businesses that cater to pooches in special ways. We will try to list upcoming events that are pet friendly and be a go to place for info on all things Dog in Carmel. If you have any suggestions for a story or know of an event you would like listed please contact me! I am more than willing to post photos of pets that have gone missing or feature animals that are up for adoption needing a good new home to go to.

Carmel is home to such a multitude of cool dogs. Every time we head down into town with Rudy we tell him it's time for "a dog party in dog city." He is totally hip to this lingo and gets all nervous with anticipation about a mile before we even hit Ocean Ave. He knows he will be mingling with oodles of furry friends and romping on the beach within minutes. We get pretty excited about it too actually. There is nothing better than a tired terrier and that is what we achieve every single time!

Who was seen by the sea today? If you live in Carmel you will recognize this face....

This is Lord Wellington. He may be among the most famous of Carmel's dogs. He even has his own myspace page. I have yet to make the acquaintance of his people... but we pass him on the sidewalk frequently and I always admire his regal stance and attitude. I will have to see if we can get an exclusive feature interview and find out more about him.

Thanks to the good people of the Carmel area and all their fine canine friends. We hope to honor the bond between man and beast appropriately on this site and bring our community together even more through stories and photos.

Let the good times roll!
